Information about those beautiful little fish known as Endlers Livebearers

Endlers Livebearers

Poecilia wingei

Size: females: up to 1.75 inches (4cm), males: smaller at 0.75-1 inch (2.5cm)

pH: 7.5-8.5

Temperature: 75˚F to 82˚F (24-28C)

Tank Size: 5 gallons and up

Tank Range: Top, Middle, Bottom

Care: Endlers Livebearers are omnivorous and will readily accept a variety of flakes, freeze dried and live foods. Vary their diet for optimum colors and health.

Sexing: Males are much more colorful and have a modified anal fin that looks like a straw, called a gonopodium.  Females are usually a dull grey, have a regular anal fin and are larger than males.

Breeding: A pregnant female endler will have a gravid spot.  Like many other livebearers, female endlers can give birth every 28 days and can store sperm so expect multiple drops even if no male is present.  They tend to drop groups of 4-20 fry, with older females producing more fry.  Ground and floating cover is much appreciated by the fry, at least during the first few day after birth.
